Livin’ in the City
Had a friend move out of our company living quarters and into the city and it was quite the experience to see the whole moving process. First, the movers. For a couple hundred bucks, these guys show up with a truck at your place and begin throwing all your belongings without regard of whether it will make the journey intact.
Did I also mention that the roads are usually only wide enough to fit one car? When your moving truck stops to unload, traffic gets blocked. And when traffic gets blocked, people get angry and being to hold down their horns for minutes to try to convince you to move. When they realize their 2-door coupe can’t move a 6 wheel truck, they stop, leave their car, and get out, and wait.
Now my friend moved into a relatively older complex, with seemingly friendly landlord and caretakers, except, however, towards the movers. Moving was going relatively smoothly until the power went out in his apartment. Forutnately the lights emanating from our cell phones really helped bring some clarity, we had an electrician come in within 15minutes and help replace a fuse. What service!
Anyways, the feeling from this older place in the city reminds me of what I’ve seen on TV about HK in the 70s and 80s. I’m now more thankful for the safety and comfort of where I live, but also realizing that I’m probably less and less a big city person..
