Oh BBQ bun, when shall we meet again?

Let’s just say traveling with a pack of 10 people isn’t my idea of a relaxing vacation, but can’t say it wasn’t action-packed!

Hong Kong still has to be one of the best stops for good food at every corner. Unlike Shanghai, a good restaurant is likely only 5 minutes away. I’m very happy to report that I was able to eat to my heart’s content before coming back. Oh BBQ bun, how I miss you! And yes, we were very blessed to be able to stay at a place where the accmodations are cheap and in an amazing location. Thanks to Praise for the suggestion!

Macau is an interesting city. If you’re not the gambler, there’s not much else to do. Sure you can fill yourself up on egg tarts and egg rolls, but by the 2nd day I’m sure you’d be looking for more to do. A very strange thing about the city is that there aren’t a lot of young adults in town. After asking a few people it seems they’ve all gone overseas to study and to work. Why? Well, there aren’t too many industries that can survive in the long shadows of the casinos. You know how much card dealers make there? They make way more than most engineers make (including me), and you don’t even need a university degree. As if you had to ask, I’ve already packed and am ready to head back down there for employment. Okay, maybe not, but anyone that wants to start a business in Macau will be facing a very large barrier to entry.

The general feeling I get from the southern parts of China is that business, work, etc., is done with much more “liberty”, if you catch my drift. It seems there is a market for anything under the sun and there are many ways of going about getting it. It’s definitely more about who you know, and how much dough you have. Darn, that’s two strikes…

The weather this week in Shanghai is relatively moderate, hovering in the low 30s. This was a far cry from my first year in Shanghai when there were over 15 days over 40C! What’s your most memorable Shanghai summer adventure? Feel free to drop a comment!
