Gold medal for Nathan!

Yes, the trip was a success and Nathan’s come away with a gold medal in the 4×100free relay for the States. Did I also mention a world record? But Nathan swam the opening leg in the prelims in fine fashion, helping his team out as the fastest qualifier into the finals. Unfortunately, the record only held up until that time, where a few other guys were subbed in to give more people a chance at the gold. If you guys have missed it, it was a swim for the ages. He’s going to the Olympics!

Earlier this evening my little (well, now not so little) cousin made a big splash today at the US Swimming Olympic Trials. With a time of 48.46, Nathan Adrian qualified as the first teenager on the 2008 US Swim Team, locking down a position for the 4×100free relay. I can tell you, my aunt and uncle are pretty darn happy!

Congrats to Nathan!

You’re probably not a swim fan like me, and it probably doesn’t excite you like some other sports. But I write this time since I have a vested interest in watching my cousin Nathan, who just accomplished some hefty goals these last few days!

At the Short Course Championships, held last weekend, in Manchester, England, Nathan served notice to the swimming world by going a 46.67 in the 100m free, out-touching Filippo Magnini of Italy by 0.03sec, to win the gold medal. In addition, he teamed up with three teammates to break a world record in the 400m free relay (3:08.44). So what does this mean?
